Solids for 9-12 months

At 9-12 months, your baby will be getting better at picking up small pieces of food, chewing and controlling food in his/her mouth.

  • Let your baby pick up some food and feed himself/herself
  • Finger foods are an important part of development. However, babies still need you to spoon feed for adequate meals.
  • Serve food in either big pieces they can hold (1 cracker, 1/4 slice of dry toast) or tiny soft pieces they can pick up (size of a pea).
  • Increase the variety and textures of foods.
  • When your baby is eating a variety of solid food, give breast milk and if breastfeeding is not possible, then use milk formula such as Almarai Enfamil A+ stage 2 formula after meals.

Food Group Tips
Vegetables and Fruits
  • Offer soft, cooked vegetables and fruits cut in bite-size pieces.
  • Give pieces of soft, ripe fruit like bananas, kiwi, peaches, mango, papaya, avocado and canteloupe.
  • Try unsweetened apple sauce.
Grain products
  • Continue to give your baby infant cereal because it is a good source of iron.
  • If your baby refuses to eat it, try mixing it with fruit.
  • Offer finger foods, such as pieces of bagel, dry toast strips, pasta, rice, tortillas, flat bread, unsalted crackers or whole grain "O"-shaped cereal.
Meat and Alternatives
  • Give bite-size pieces of tender meat, fish, cooked beans, tofu and egg.
  • If your baby refuses meat, try mixing fish, beans or tofu in sweet potatoes or squash.

By 1 year of age, your baby should be eating a variety of soft foods from the 4 food groups and drinking water, juice and Almarai Enfagrow A+ Growing up milk from a cup.
