Social Activities for Two

The best thing you can do for your child's emotional development is also the most natural. Love him/her. Be proud of him/her. Show him/her that he/she is capable of doing great things. And be there for him/her, whether he/she soars or falls.

Spend time together.

You are still him/her favourite role model.

Establish a routine.

She/he can find comfort in the familiar, though you can vary it a little on special occasions.

Hold her when she's upset.

Speak calmly and quietly until the storm passes.

Share his/her emotions.

Let him/her see you happy or sad when he/she is. This will help him/her build empathy.

Be patient with regressive behavior.

Treat this one with patience, and try to understand where it's coming from.

Work with words.

Say the words for objects you see every day. Encourage him/her to say them back.

Read as often as you can.

Start with predictable stories, so he/she can "read" them too.

Use the mirror.

Let him/her make faces and name his/her body parts.

Walk the neighborhood.

Talk about what you see.

Share.

Set a good example with snacks, toys or books.
